“Teen Esteem brings real world experiences to my classroom. The speakers are well trained and speak about a great number of issues related to teen life. They have been a great partner in getting the message of personal responsibility to our students. They use modern language, talk to our students in an engaging way and create dialogue that allows our students to feel comfortable asking questions about relationships.”
“It is wonderful to have speakers that are well trained to speak to my class. Guest speakers bring a new perspective and the students are more engaged than if they only heard the information from me. “When students receive an education on any topic they need a variety of resources, perspectives and information presented. Teen Esteem is one excellent resource for my students. The students hear from their teacher on a regular basis and TE brings a new element into the room. It brings new voices, stories and discussion points.”
“The variety of topics covered in the presentation is wonderful and incredibly relevant to students. Teenagers today must face the reality of making difficult choices in areas such as drugs, alcohol and sexual behavior. TE challenges many students to rethink some of their choices and the long term impact of their choices. Creating a physical progression that allows students to see the how easy it is to move into sexual activity they might not be ready for is very powerful. Students have a clearer understanding of the choices they make and how these impact future decisions. When asked about favorite guest speakers throughout the semester students often respond Teen Esteem. When asked why it’s because the discussion created in the classroom caused them to pause and evaluate their lives. They evaluate their past decisions, what they are currently dealing with and how both impact their future. The personal stories shared by the presenters make the discussion seem relevant and meaningful not just a lecture. As a teacher I can not create these same discussions. I thoroughly enjoy listening to my students actively participate in TE presentations, sharing their personal stories and experiences. The format of the presentation and the well trained presenters create an atmosphere of trust allowing students to openly and actively participate.”
“The speakers were amazing. The kids really respected and understood the content and the over all presentation.”
“The students get a strong message about self esteem, decision making and a serious look at who loves them most and who wants what is best for them. It is a good message given by someone other than their teacher and it compliments and supports our curriculum.”
“The speakers were absolutely fabulous!!! The kids gave me very positive feedback. The speakers presented in a fun, interesting, factual manner. I truly believe it made a HUGE difference in decision making for my kids.”
“One of the highlights of our school year is the presentation of the Teen Esteem Program. This is a two-day presentation given to an audience of both young men & women combined, 12-13 years of age. We usually request that the presentation be in the spring, before our eighth graders graduate & go off to summer fun, followed by high school. This program has been a powerful influence on our youth. It causes them to realize that they themselves are in control of their lives. It focuses on the reality that there are always consequences for their actions, both positive & negative. This program is presented by well-qualified, well-educated adults and it has always been well received by our students.”
“The speakers related to the students, held their attention, and got the points across. One of my most tuned out students was the first to clap for a speaker at the end of a presentation. That says it all.”
“Your program has a great message and the speakers were excellent. They did a great job of letting students know how very important they are and they have a right to demand respect from others. That came across well.”
“It is always good for the students to hear outside speakers. It brings ‘real life’ into the classroom. It also helps to have other caring adults present to the students. I want my students to know that Teen Esteem is a resource for them.”
